Certified Organic

Organic certification is the world's most widely used, secure and impermeable traceability system. Certified farmers, producers and manufacturers must show their processes are compliant to organic standards.

We completed our three years of conversion in September 2017.  Our Organic Farms New Zealand certification number is 1430.

Sustainable Practices

Rehutai Orchard is located right on the coastline of beautiful Kawau Bay.  Even on the stillest of days we have a gentle sea breeze flowing through our trees.  We have no neighbours undertaking intensive agriculture activity. The bird population along the coast between Sandspit and Tawharanui Regional Park is amazing, and these little helpers keep our orchard clear of nasty insect pests. We have been spray free since 2015 as a result.

Each winter we prune our trees which leads to better fruit production in the spring.  We chip the pruned branches and apply the resultant mulch straight back to the ground beneath our tress to protect the root structure and help retain moisture.

Caring  for our Feijoa fruits

We harvest our fruit every day during the season.  All fruit is hand picked from the tree by our team during the cool of the morning, and transferred to our chiller as soon after harvest as possible.  We maintain our chiller at a consistent temperature to ensure the fruit attains maximum shelf life after harvest.

Our sorting and packing is done following on from harvest each day.  Each piece of fruit is polished and then sorted, initially by weight and then by grade.  We only sell Grade One and Grade Two fruit - any fruit that is imperfect is sold for processing.

We maintain the cold chain right through to the wholesaler.  Look for retailers who merchandise Feijoa in their chilled display cabinets - this fruit will have good shelf life.  The feijoa season is just too short to be eating poorly presented fruit.
